Two examples of smoke-free products are e-cigarettes and heat-not-burn tobacco. In an e-cigarette, an e-liquid containing nicotine is heated and evaporated for vaping. E-liquid does not contain actual tobacco, but only tobacco-flavoured liquids may be sold in Finland. Nicotine concentration in e-liquids may vary depending on the product.
Heat-not-burn tobacco sticks contain tobacco that has been processed into a compressed form. Tobacco is not burned but heated to the point where the taste can be released without smoke or ash.
The choice between these two smoke-free options depends on the personal preferences of the adult user.
What is the difference between traditional cigarettes and smoke-free products?
A traditional cigarette is burned – smoke, carbon monoxide, ash and tar are formed as a by-product of burning. When traditional cigarette burns, the temperature may rise to 600–900 ℃ degrees. More than 6,000 chemicals have been identified as ingredients in tobacco smoke, of which about a hundred have been classified as potential pathogens.
